In Depth

Bahá'í Faith traces its roots to 1844 when The Báb declared that the Day of God was at hand and He was the One promised in Islamic scripture. The Báb appealed to Persians during a time of great excitement and is credited with opening the way for the arrival of the Bahá'u'lláh in 1863. Since then, the Bahá'í Faith has grown into the second most widely distributed religion in the world.

The central belief in the Bahá'í Faith is the idea of unity. Bahá'ís believe that there is One God, One Religion and One Human Race. They work for the elimination of all forms of prejudice, full equality of the sexes, recognition of the oneness of religion, elimination of the extremes of poverty and wealth, education for all, harmony of science and religion, a balance between nature and technology, the establishment of a world federal system, and world peace. Bahá'í Faith, in its newness, is considered a universal religion and its followers believe that our success as One Race of people depends on our ability to come together and live as One Human Race.

Bahá'ís believe in the Oneness of God. In fact they believe that all of the world's religions have been stages in the revelation of God's will. Bahá'ís consider prophets from all religions to have taken part in the revelation of His will as well. They trace the line of Prophets as follows: Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Zoroaster, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, The Báb, and Bahá'u'lláh. They consider these prophets to have taught humanity in stages similar to the progression of students through their formal education-increasingly complex.
